One year ago, on March 25, 2015, we published the very first HeroPress essay. It was by Andrey “Rarst” Savchenko, and titled “Finding Your Place“. It’s been an amazing journey for me (Topher) personally. I’ve met a huge number of amazing people in the last year, far more than did essays. People who’ve enlightened me, inspired me, and humbled me.
In that one year my world view has been expanded tremendously. As a typical American I had never been outside North America, I speak only one language, and I’ve never struggled to simply go anywhere I want. Now I have close friends in dozens of countries, I’ve traveled to India, and shared meals with people from dramatically different cultures from my own.
Here is the list of countries from which we’ve heard so far:
- New Zealand
- South Africa
- Sri Lanka
- United States
That’s wonderful cultural diversity, but sadly I have quite literally twice as many men as women. That tilts SLIGHTLY better in the coming weeks, but not enough, so I’m looking for the voices and wisdom of more women.
I have some other ideas for additions to HeroPress, I simply need to find time to make them happen. I’ll post as they happen.
I’ve said it before, and I still maintain that I don’t think anyone on Earth has been more blessed than myself by HeroPress. It has been a complete honor and joy to interact with every single person I’ve come in contact with. I’m just glad you all get to share some of it.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank my family. My wife and children have sacrificed family time, given good ideas, stopped terrible ideas from going too far, and in one case actually contributed an essay. HeroPress wouldn’t be here without their patience, encouragement, and love.
I’d also like to thank Dave Rosen for facilitating HeroPress. He let me run with it even when all seemed lost. Thanks man.
I’m going to leave you with a couple pictures that symbolize HeroPress to me. They’re simply screen captures of the entire HeroPress Media Library. Every contributor, every picture, every banner.
Thank you all
